New York Times bestselling author Claudia Connor follows up her heartfelt debut, Worth the Fall, with a novel about Matt’s brother, Stephen—and when a McKinney brother falls in love, powerful emotion and overwhelming desire are never far behind.
Two hearts locked away . . . Hannah Walker spends her days coaching children through injury and trauma, one therapeutic horseback ride at a time. She knows all too well how violence can change a child and leave scars that never heal. It’s easy for her to relate to the kids; what isn’t easy is the thought of facing her own harrowing past.
Millionaire playboy Stephen McKinney could use a little coaching himself. Five years ago he encountered his most horrible nightmare—and the nightmare won. No matter what he achieves, nothing can make up for that awful night . . . or so he believes.
Both desperate for a second chance . . . Stephen is used to getting what he wants. And he wants Hannah. So when she turns him down, he’s intrigued. What he doesn’t know is that her secrets will lead him to a place he never wanted to go again . . . to a side of himself he’s tried to forget . . . a side that would scare Hannah away from ever loving him. Now his only chance to win her trust is to bare his soul, risking everything he tried so hard to protect.
I fell in love with Claudia Connor after reading Worth The Fall on whim. I was in between books and had bought on sale….said sure why not. Best decision I ever made since I fell in love with Matt and Abby. When I knew the book two was going to be about another McKinney brother, Stephen, I was so excited.
Stephen is the third oldest in the McKinney clan. He has spent the last 5 years away from his very close family. He felt that his pain and his dark world he was living in didn’t belong around them so he stayed away. I totally understood where he was coming from after the tragedy he endured. You meet him the first time briefly in Worth The Fall as Matt tries bringing him back into the family. On a chance encounter he crosses paths with Hannah at the grocery store.
Hannah. My sweet, beautiful and broken Hannah. Sigh. I love her. She is physical therapist that uses horses to help children with physical disabilities. She is the baby of her family, being raised by her four older brothers when her parents passed away. They take protective to whole extra level.
Hannah has been hiding too and it has taken her a long time to get to point where she is at. Not for the same reasons as Stephen but horrible just the same. She meets Stephen at vulnerable moment having just put her dog to sleep and agreeing to meet him for drinks that night. She wants to learn to trust again. Not only herself but others. Drinks turns to dinner and things move along well but both are afraid for their own reasons. The main question being for both of them….can I move past the pain…the guilt?
I really loved Stephen and Hannah together. I was rooting for them not only to be together but to heal. They both had been through so much and they were good people. They deserved to be happy.
He was healing her even if he didn’t know it. With every caress. Every kiss.
The flow of this book was great and I loved that in this book we got to see even more of the McKinney family plus touch base with Abby and Matt. That made my heart so happy. There is still one more book for the McKinney brothers, Worth It All, which I hope is JT. I so want to know his story and have him come home. I also really hope since we got to meet all the Walker men, they will get series too. I mean who does not want a series on the FBI agent, firefighter, cop. A wonderful continuing to these very hot bunch of men by an incredibly talented writer. I will read anything Claudia Connor puts out.
