When I saw I was tagged by Steph at No Bs Reviews I thought I had to do this, this post seemed like too much fun pass up..
1. HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A BLOGGER?
This will be my 3rd year blogging. Yeah, crap, wow, my 3rd year. I started reviewing online in 2013 and officially came over to BCS in December 2013.
2. AT WHAT POINT DO YOU THINK YOU’LL STOP BLOGGING?
I’ll be honest, I have thought about quitting a time or two or ten lol. A few weeks ago I was ready to burn the blog down Khaleesi’s dragons style ( I was having a bad few weeks,…family stuff, blogger burn out, the holidays, etc.), but that was when I was feeling overwhelmed. I’m learning that I can not let myself get to that point, so I will take a step back if I begin to feel like that. I don’t think I could ever truly let blogging go. Blogging is one of the few outlets I have to express myself. Besides, I love this blog too much, even if it acts like a rebellious teenager!
3. WHAT IS THE BEST THING ABOUT BLOGGING?
Meeting new people and making friends! Since I’ve joined this book community I have met and made some truly awesome friends. They are peeps!! They get my crazy and I get theirs.
Reading books and getting to share my opinion. Seriously, I am surrounded by so many amazing books and book recommendations. I mean I love books and I’m passionate about them but I don’t have too many people IRL the that are as excited about books as I am. It’s really great that I get to share my opinion and that I can discuss books with friends and followers.
4. WHAT IS THE WORST THING? WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE IT OKAY?
Getting Overwhelmed! You want to be able to read every book, listen to every recommendation, and share every book but, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. You (and your co-blogger if you have one) are just one person. I’m learning to say no more often and that I need to have a better balance between my personal life and blogging life. Also, I am trying to get myself more organized , making schedules, drafting post early, etc. It’s a work in progress though.
5. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO CREATE/FIND PICTURES TO USE?
It depends on the post and how squirrely I am that day. Sometimes I may search for pictures for teasers or things like that, that usually takes about an hour or less. If it’s simple enough, I head over to Pickmonkey and try to tackle the task. J, does graphic design, so if it’s a more complicated graphic, I usually harass her to do it.
6. WHO IS YOUR BOOK CRUSH?
Alexander Belov from The Bronze Horseman. I love that man. Seriously, why is he not real?!
7. WHAT AUTHOR WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE ON YOUR BLOG?
Hmmm as in doing interview with them or guest posting? Paullina Simons. I mean she gave me The Bronze Horseman and Tatiana and Alexander, I would love to have her on. I would have so many questions to ask her. Also Katie McGary, I love her writing style and she’s so amazing in person.
8. WHAT DO YOU WEAR WHEN YOU WRITE YOUR BLOG POSTS?
Usually I’m in my Big Bang Theory “Banzinga” t-shirt and some sort of comfy pants. I’m usually cuddled up on my couch with my hair a mess too. I like to call it “hot mess chic”
9. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE YOU TO PREPARE?
Hmmm prepare? As in plan? Ha! That would mean I’m organized lol. For example this post took me nearly two weeks to do because 1: I’m a squirrel, 2: our site was down for a few days, and 3: see #1. In all seriousness though, I do try to set aside some time during the day (usually when my son is at school) to work on posts. I will set up drafts of review posts if I have the info ahead of time or if I have an idea for a new posts I try to gather the info and outline what I want to talk about.
10. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE BOOK BLOGGER COMMUNITY?
Back in 2012 when I first discovered the blogging community, I was in awe. It has grown and changed so much in the last few years. We are all fish in a very big sea. We have different styles, tastes, and opinions and that is A-OK, as long as we can all respectfully disagree. Even though there can be drama sometimes, I still love it, and I am so proud to be a part of it. I have found so amazing blogs, made great friends, and I have learned so much.
11. WHAT DO YOU THINK ONE SHOULD DO TO GET A SUCCESSFUL BLOG?
It can be easy to get caught up in, who has what arc, or how did they get this author to do a take over, or why didn’t I think of that cool new feature, etc, etc, but, WORRY ABOUT YOU. You can’t focus on what other bloggers have or are doing. It will drive you batty. You can be inspired by it or learn from it, but try not to get annoyed, or jealous, or jaded, just focus on you. Believe in you. You got this.
Sometimes I feel like I may be talking to myself on Facebook and Twitter (and who knows, maybe I am lol) but I always try to chat and respond to followers and authors. It helps your followers get a sense of who you are. Sometimes it can lead to various discussions and sometimes even friendships.
Be honest and stay true to you!!!
I can not stress this enough. Be (respectfully) honest in your reviews, be honest in how you operate your blog, and in what you promote. Don’t be a shady boots!! Don’t make your reviews fluff because your opinion is unpopular and you don’t want to hurt feelings. Don’t share things you don’t care about and don’t blatantly take someone else’s ideas or words. Stay honest and stay true to you.
No, a blog should not FEEL like work but let’s be real, it does require time and effort. You can’t be successful if you’re not willing to put forth any effort. Create your posts, come up with new ideas, interact and engage, make it fun, just put forth the effort. Remember loves, you get what you give.
