Get ready to die laughing: this is an outrageously funny ride through the last hours of a teenager’s life as he searches for love, meaning, answers, and (just maybe) a way to live on.

Denton Little’s Deathdate takes place in a world exactly like our own except that everyone knows the day on which they will die. For Denton, that’s in just two days—the day of his senior prom.

Despite his early deathdate, Denton has always wanted to live a normal life, but his final days are filled with dramatic firsts. First hangover. First sex. First love triangle—as the first sex seems to have happened not with his adoring girlfriend, but with his best friend’s hostile sister. (Though he’s not totally sure—see, first hangover.) His anxiety builds when he discovers a strange purple rash making its way up his body. Is this what will kill him? And then a strange man shows up at his funeral, claiming to have known Denton’s long-deceased mother, and warning him to beware of suspicious government characters. . . . Suddenly Denton’s life is filled with mysterious questions and precious little time to find the answers.

Denton Little’s Date was a funny, quirky, sarcastic, and emotional novel.

Denton Little basically lives in a world just like our own, except thanks to Astro-ThanatoGenetics, everyone is born knowing the day that they are going to die. Denton knows that he’s going to die at 17 and his deathdate happens to fall on the day of his senior prom.

I immediately feel in like/love with Denton’s character. He’s was sarcastic, funny, and generally and all around good guy. They day before his death goes nothing like he anticipated. Instead of being home, he wakes up at his best friend Paolo’s house, hungover, and with very little memory of the night before.

“I’m sorry. I’ve never died before I don’t think I’m very good at it.”

As Denton lives out his last day on earth he wants to spend time with those closest to him; his family, friends, and his girlfriend Taryn. Denton accepts his death and even though he knows it’s inevitable, he realizes he doesn’t want to die. Denton decides that he’s going to make his last day truly mean something to him and those around him. Things do not go how he planned. As the day unfolds there are strange things that start to happen in Denton’s world and he begins to have more questions than answers.

“Days are more fun when any one could be the day you die.”

Yes, the subject matter of death is a serious thing but Lance Rubin managed to balance it with genuine humor and true emotion. It was great to hear the story through his POV and even though we differed in age I felt I could relate to Denton’s character. I also really enjoyed the supporting character’s such as his friend Paolo, Veronica, and his step-mom and his interactions with them.  The story had of bit of mystery and a little bit of a romantic element. It was a little odd, a little crazy, but I truly enjoyed the book. Then ending was a bit fast paced but I’m truly excited to see what is to come in the next installment of this series.
