Avery Bardot steps off the plane in Rome, looking for a fresh start. She’s left behind a soon-to-be ex-husband in Boston and plans to spend the summer with her best friend Daisy, licking her wounds—and perhaps a gelato or two. But when her American-expat friend throws her a welcome party on her first night, Avery’s thrown for a loop when she sees a man she never thought she’d see again: Italian architect Marcello Bianchi.
Marcello was the man—the one who got away. And now her past is colliding with her present, a present where she should be mourning the loss of her marriage and—hey, that fettuccine is delicious! And so is Marcello…
Slipping easily into the good life of summertime in Rome, Avery spends her days exploring a city that makes art historians swoon, and her nights swooning over her unexpected what was old is new again romance. It’s heady, it’s fevered, it’s wanton, and it’s crazy. But could this really be her new life? Or is it just a temporary reprieve before returning to the land of twin-set cardigans and crustless sandwiches?
A celebration of great friendship, passionate romance, and wonderful food, Roman Crazy is a lighthearted story of second chances and living life to the fullest.
Roman Crazy was funny, sweet, and just a little bit sexy. I adore second chance romances and this was a perfect little love story. Marcello was absolutely swoon worthy. That man had me ready to pack my bags and jump on a plane so I could have my own Roman adventure.
“Choices were made, decisions were cemented, and paths were chosen. But no one said I had to stay running on that particular hamster wheel.”
After Avery catches her husband cheating on her with his secretary, her marriage was over in her eyes. Needing a much deserved break, she decides to head to Rome and visit her best friend Daisy. Being in Italy gave her the chance to relax and find herself. I loved Avery’s personality. She was spunky and fun. Her and Daisy’s friendship kept me laughing. Daisy gave her all the encouragement, sarcasm, and honest advice a girl would need.
The one thing that Avery didn’t expect to find in Italy was Marcello. Nine years ago, Avery and Marcello had this intense summer romance. It was absolutely sexy and their chemistry had been off the charts. Their relationship ended after she left that summer. Even though they had spent nearly a decade apart, it was easy to see that they still had the same sizzling chemistry. I wanted to see how or if they could rekindle what they once had.
“I had the most comforting sense of being anchored. That tether that I was looking for was present and I couldn’t wait to see where this could lead.”
While I was reading I almost felt like I was in Italy. There was such vivid descriptions of all of the sights and sounds of the city. I think Alice and Nina make a great duo. Avery and Daisy’s friendship jumped off the pages and the story just felt like two BFF’s wrote it. Their writing was fun and it flowed well. Avery was a great character. Being in Italy helped her to reevaluate what she wanted in life. Her character had the chance to grow and change. Plus the romance, sigh I loved the romance. Marcello was so charming and sexy. I enjoyed seeing how their story played out.
I do wish there was a bit more depth to the story. At times it was a bit predictable but I still enjoyed it. I’m hoping (assuming) Daisy’s story is next. Daisy could be my book BFF anyday, so I’m looking forward to reading the rest of this series. If you’re looking a light read, then this is definitely the story to pick up.
