Today is Valentine’s Day, a day celebrating romance and flowers and chocolates.
And J.L. Berg, a lover of all three, wants to celebrate with everyone! There’s a books-and-chocolate giveaway below but FIRST…some romance novels we loved.
Sometimes once is not enough…
After twenty-five years of marriage, Faith Wainwright wonders what she’ll do next. Her kids have moved out and sometimes she feels so distant from her husband, Troy.
Right before their anniversary, Troy gives Faith an unexpected gift: a journey through their hometown to reenact all their “firsts.” Their first date. Their first kiss. And especially the first time they made love—only better.
Each stop on their tour becomes an opportunity for Faith and Troy to rediscover how explosive their passion can be. Now Faith knows exactly what she’s going to do—Troy, over and over again…
Julie’s Mini Review: I read this story a long time ago but I fell in love. A sexy married couple finding the reasons why they loved each other after all the kids leave the house for college. It made me laugh, cry and my heart full. MUST READ.
Growing up in an idealistic home, Sparrow Fisher is sheltered and innocent. When she meets Ian Sterling, a musician who is rising in popularity, she instantly falls for his charm. They run into each other over the next few months and eventually begin an unconventional relationship.
At different places in their lives, Sparrow is off to college in New York, and Ian is traveling the country with the band. When they see each other, all seems wonderful and lighthearted, but when they’re apart, Sparrow is left to wonder if Ian really cares about her the way he says he does, or if she’s just another pretty face to him.
Once their relationship steadies, they’re both happier than they’ve ever been, and it’s hard to not get caught up in the magic they have together. Until something so devastating comes to light that threatens to shatter everything they’ve built with each other.
True Love Story is a story about the real highs and lows that come with a relationship—happiness, pain, angst, and finding out if love really is enough.
Julie’s Mini Review: Not your conventional love story but sweet in its own right. It was beautifully written and showed that not everyone is perfect. We may care/love many people but never learn, until much later, how to put them before ourselves, if ever. A story that definitely stayed with me.
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights, all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur, or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler’s armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.
Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident, yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana—and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander’s impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects—a secret as devastating as the war itself—as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.
Cezanne’s Mini Review: The Bronze Horseman is one of the most beautiful love stories that I ever read. Set it 1940s Russia, one chance meeting brought two characters together. They had an epic love story that had to try and survive a long triangle, heartbreak, distance, and months apart.
Twenty-year-old Camryn Bennett thought she knew exactly where her life was going. But after a wild night at the hottest club in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, she shocks everyone-including herself-when she decides to leave the only life she’s ever known and set out on her own. Grabbing her purse and her cell phone, Camryn boards a Greyhound bus ready to find herself. Instead, she finds Andrew Parrish.
Sexy and exciting, Andrew lives life like there is no tomorrow. He persuades Camryn to do things she never thought she would and shows her how to give in to her deepest, most forbidden desires. Soon he becomes the center of her daring new life, pulling love and lust and emotion out of her in ways she never imagined possible. But there is more to Andrew than Camryn realizes. Will his secret push them inseparably together-or destroy them forever?
Cezanne’s Mini Review: Two strangers that were running away from their own problems, end up meeting on a bus ride. The shared their love of music, formed this fantastic connection, but love doesn’t come easy, and sometimes there are secrets that can keep you apart……forever.
When Ash loses her boyfriend, she is consumed by grief, loneliness and an overwhelming sense of guilt for her role in not only his death, but the deaths of everyone she has ever loved. Refusing to let anyone in for fear of losing them too, she becomes withdrawn, spending her days reliving the nightmares from her past.
Until she meets Luke.
Initially scared by his intensity and interest in her, Ash tries to push him away. But as Luke slowly starts to chip away at the walls she’s built, Ash finds herself doing the one thing she swore she’d never do again — falling in love.
When the familiar feelings Ash had hoped were long buried with her past begin to resurface, she is forced to ask herself if falling in love again is really worth the risk.
Julie’s Mini Review: This story is just sad and beautiful. Again not your typical love story but beautiful just the same. She is like the black widow of her world and it breaks your heart. You spend half the book waiting for the worst and hoping something breaks the heartbreaking cycle for Ash. A definite MUST READ.
Pick Up J.L Bergs NEW RELEASE….Within These Walls
Within these walls, he became my solace, my sanctuary and my strength.
I am not strong. I am just a survivor of circumstance.
Isn’t that what we all do? Survive?
Each of us has our own set of circumstances to muddle through. Mine are just more…complicated.
Born with a severe heart defect, I’ve seen the inside of a hospital room more than my own bedroom.
I was drowning, a prisoner to the illness that owned me, until he appeared. He thinks he’s blocked out the world with his tattoos and hard exterior, but I see the real Jude, the one he so desperately wants to forget.
But is he the answer to my prayers or will he break my already damaged heart forever?
My name is Lailah Buchanan, and this is our story of hope, redemption and sacrificing it all for the one you love.
Julie’s Mini Review
I actually read this the other day. Lailah and Jude are not to be missed. Both living in prisons, both trying to survive in those prisons. Lailah just wants out of hers so she can live. Love. Jude is trying to punish himself and living in his grief. J.L Berg is phenomenal writer that creates some of the best characters I have read to date. ★★★★ 1/2
With one pudding cup snug in my pocket, I was the epitome of stealth.
I slipped through the door quietly, ignoring the fact that I looked like a creepy stalker, and I stepped into the darkened room like I had a purpose.
I did work here, so there could be a dozen reasons for me entering a patient’s room.
Delivering a fudge snack pack was probably not one of them.
Like the many times before, I tried not to linger as I entered the room, but with each passing visit, it became more and more difficult.
The first night I’d decided to do this, I’d quickly done this drop-and-dash routine. I had gone in and out without a second glance.
But then, I’d met her. I’d come to her room and found myself face-to-face with the girl behind my late-night pudding runs. She was shy and timid, her gestures clumsy and unpracticed. She was so different from the polished and sophisticated girls I’d grown up with. Even her name was awkward. It sounded like the classic Eric Clapton song “Layla,” but hers was spelled all wrong.
She had made me curious. I’d suddenly wanted to know what else in this world would make her smile.
