Liz Dougherty has no idea that a single question is about to change her life.

Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.

But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.

K.A. Linde’s Record series begins with a sleek, sexy, and smart venture into a high-stakes political campaign and an even higher-stakes affair that, in the end, will leave you wanting more with one of Linde’s gripping cliffhangers.

Oh K.A  Linde, the things you do to me!  I admit I was nervous going into this book. After reading her Avoiding series and I was scared she would rip out my heart again but, what she gave me instead was sexy story of secrets, love, and growth.

Liz is a college reporter for her school new newspaper. Liz is smart, beautiful, and serious about her work. She’s had a crush on her friend and editor Hayden for the last two years. She’s always wanted more from their friendship but he’s never really reciprocated. She’s still sorting out her feelings for Hayden when they are both assigned to cover the upcoming election. While covering the election she meets Senator Brady Maxwell.

“His voice was like an addiction – pulling you in, making you crave more, making you feel as if you feel as if you could never get enough.”

Brady is powerful, charming, seductive, and sexy. He’s the complete alpha male. He knows what he wants and goes after it. Liz doesn’t like Brady’s policies and calls his out on it during his press conference. When Liz challenged him, it sparked something in him that he had never felt before way about anything or anyone. It draws him to Liz and he propositions her for a relationship.  It’s one based in secrecy and on his terms. Despite reason, Brady has a pull on her. There is a lot a risk for the both of them. She’s a journalist, he’s a politician and it could end badly for them both. She knows she could get hurt but she chooses to explore a relationship with him.

“You don’t have any secrets? ….You’re my only secret.”

Part of me didn’t want to fall for Brady. He was cocky and I didn’t fully trust his intentions at first, but as the story progressed, you got to see the real Brady Maxwell. He was fun, sweet when he wanted to be, and sexy as hell. His and Liz’s relationship was shrouded in secrecy and discretion and sometimes it lead to jealousy and mistrust.  At times I wanted to be frustrated with Liz. I wanted her to stand up to Brady and demand more of their relationship but I also saw how difficult it was for them both. Despite all that, Brady could make Liz feel confident, free, and she fell for him more and more. Liz was Brady’s “airplane”, she stirred up feelings that he hadn’t had before and made him want to take risk to be with her.

“They were slipping away from their arrangement. The more he let her in, the more she craved for him”

“You’re the only person I’ve ever met who so completely disarms me. I feel like sometimes you aren’t looking at me; you’re looking through me. Like you know every single secret in my existence…like you know exactly what I’m thinking….”

Their careers, secrets, and their own feelings were all stacked against them. Liz starts to want more and Brady can only give so much. What are they willing to sacrifice? This story had great build up, lots of hot scenes, and it leaves you wanting more.  I’m dying to see what happens next for Liz and Brady. Brady Maxwell definitely won my vote!
