Guarded this the story of Vanessa and Jackson. Vanessa is has been married for 4 years to the biggest douche-bag around. This guy has been telling her for the last 4 years what a worthless, ugly, poor excuse for a human being Vanessa is and all while cheating on her. She does not know this when she first sees him. They are instantly attracted to each other and upon meeting her Jackson asks her to show him around the area. SHe agrees and they end up on thier fist “date’ – kinda 🙂 SHe tells him from get that she is still married and it would feel like cheating to her to get involved with him. Jackson and Vanessa have a great day together and Jackson gives her his number. He tells her to call him but of course, the low self-esteem that Vanessa ex has instilled in her runs deep so she never calls him. Jackson can’t get Vanessa out of head so after a month of not hearing from her, he decides to hunt her down at her job as a 5th grade school teacher. Things start heating up from there and eventually Vanessa works through some of her issues so she can let herself be happy with Jackson.
I really enjoyed this novella. It was well written with a good pace and kept me engaged the whole time. You do get a HEA…..no cliffhanger…woohoo!! 🙂 The male lead, Jackson, is Puerto Rican so of course the author gets one star for that alone…I know I am playing favorites but it is so rare to get a Puerto Rican lead that I gotta give props where I can 😉 It was sweet and funny but there is no steam/sex so you are being forewarned.
If you are looking for a well written, short, nice read to unwind from some heavy book you just finished…pick up Guarded…you will not be disappointed.
